Participation & Eligibility

  1. How do I sign up to join the Youth IDEAthon program?
  • Visit undp.nase.co.ug or www.nase.co.ug or follow the direct link Participant Registration – Youth IDEAthon (nase.co.ug)
  • At the Home Page, click on the orange “Register Now”
  • Fill in the Registration form carefully. Please note that forms with incorrect or fake information will lead to automatic disqualification of the idea.
  • Upon completing the form, click the register button to submit and, you will receive a confirmation email. If you don’t receive this email, please contact +256 708 080 008 for further assistance.
  1. What happens after I send?
  • There will be a confirmatory email sent to you with in 24hours. Confirming whether your form was successful or not.
  • In this email will be sent to your inbox, however, in case there is a delay, check your spam or promotions tabs where it might have directed.
  • In the email, click the activation link which will automatically activate your account in the Youth IDEAthon competition.
  1. Are our ideas safe with you?
  • Yes, your business Ideas are safe with us. All the information collected is regarded as highly classified and is used solely for official purposes.
  • We neither sell your information to third parties nor implement your ideas.
  1. When do you get back to us?
  • We will post updates exactly 22 days after the official deadline elapses. Please keep visiting our social media and nase.co.ug for real time updates.
  1. Do you own our ideas after the competition?
  • We DO NOT own your Business Ideas after the Youth IDEAthon. Our primary goal is to support viable ideas that create unique, products, services and methods, ultimately enhancing the lives of local communities, and contributing to economic growth.
  1. What is your intellectual Property Rights Policy?

Intellectual property is an important part of business that every Entrepreneur needs to know about.

We are fully registered and compliant legal entity with URSB, and as much as we make considerable effort to protect your idea, it is the owner of the idea’s sole responsibility to take extra measures.  We highly recommend that your idea is registered with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) prior to the competition. However, please note that registering your idea is not a mandatory requirement for participants of the Youth IDEAthon.

As part of our offering to budding Entrepreneurs, we have included a short free course to give participants insight about intellectual property. (See Thematic Sessions for information)

  1. I have been in business for many years, do I qualify?
  • Yes, you qualify.
  1. I don’t have a business plan; can I complete the registration form?
  • Yes, you can complete the registration form. However, it will be required at a later stage.

  • Our business is a partnership, only one of us is a student, do I qualify?
  1. I am a Student at high School, do I qualify?
  • Yes, you qualify. To qualify the entry, please attach copies of documented evidence from the institution under which He She is enrolled; Letter of admission and Identification documents.
  • Also include an official company letter, stating that the company’s student representative is part of the business’s shareholding.
  1. I completed my course but I still participate in the activities of the student association, Do I still qualify?’
  • Yes, you qualify.
  1. Can participants of any age apply? What is the Age restriction?

There is no Age restriction. Participants must be officially enrolled into a recognized tertiary institution; vocational college, technical college, University or Institute.

  1. I am not Ugandan but I live in Uganda. Can I also participate?
  • Yes, you can participate, however participants must meet all other criteria.
  1. What kind of businesses do you accept?

  1. What do I need to submit as part of my idea?
  • Your idea submission should include details such as – customer problem/pain-point, solution and value-proposition, targeted customer segments and addressed market opportunity apart from basic information about you and your team (if applicable).
  1. What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for this competition your Business idea/Company must:

  • Business idea must fall under one of the idea sectors.
  • Business idea must be entrepreneur’s innovation/creation.
  • Have a solution in one of the categories listed in the Brief.
  1. What is the selection criterion for ideas for potential incubation?

The following are the criteria (not limited to) used to select an idea:

  • Addresses the clear pain point or need of a customer
  • How the idea addresses the identified pain point?
  • Potential market of the opportunity
  • Size of the market for the opportunity

  1. What are the benefits for an entrepreneur to be part of the Youth IDEAthon process?

Incubation is a great way to improve on innovation skills and entrepreneurship mindset. The entrepreneur gets to lead the project during incubation, receives training, is exposed to innovation partners, and shares experience with other entrepreneurs.

Post incubation, the entrepreneur keeps leading the business, either internally at Schneider, or as part of the management team of the new venture in the case of spin-off. At each stage of the incubation program, rewards are associated to key milestones. In the case where a new venture is created, equity is given to the management team. The idea is that the business is controlled by the entrepreneurs, for them to be fully empowered and incentivized.

  1. What are the steps to incubate a venture?

There are 5 different steps:

Step 2: Incubation and Prototyping

Step 3: Market

Step 4: Pitch in sessions, shortlist and finalists.

  1. How do I know if I’ve registered successfully for this competition?
  • You will receive an email confirmation upon successful registration. If you do not receive any confirmation within 24 hours, please reach out on +256 708 080 008.
  1. What do I do if I have a great idea but do not want to lead the idea to a venture?
  • If you have a great idea, but do not want to risk working on the idea, you can still share the preliminary details of the idea with the incubation team or identify a person who could execute on your behalf.
  1. How many members are allowed in one team?
  • In this challenge, only one member should apply and will act as the representative for the company in question. In the later stage, a second representative may be required.

26. What is the age bracket for one to qualify for the youth IDEAthon?

  • The youth IDEAthon is open to all ages.

27. Can participants apply as a group?

  • Yes they can enter multiple ideas, in multiple categories as a group.

  1. What do I need to submit to apply?
  • A filled registration form.

  1. If my startup is selected to progress to the next phase, what should I do next?
  • For the second phase, entrepreneurs will be asked to continue to the incubation process where their ideas will be run through a number of Entrepreneurial processes.
  1. What is the deadline to apply and submit the presentations?
  • The deadline for submitting your completed registration form is July 25th, 2021.
